Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain has finally hit the shelves at my local CVS and it truly was love at first sight, I had to pick three instantly! I went for Cannes Crush, LA Exclusive and Parisian Passion which retails for $9.99 each (currently on BOGO 1/2 OFF at CVS).
Moisture Stain, which comes in 12 mouth-watering, summer-inspired shades, is the brand’s summer line up to go head to head with Maybelline’s Elixirs, L’Oreal Paris Extraordianire and Almay Liquid Lip Balm, in my opinion.
Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain uses a formula infused with vitamin E & aloe to moisturize without stickiness. Color glides on lips for a luxurious, weightless feel.
The contemporary, black border lined and see-through packaging design means no more guessing on colors or how much stuff you have left. Others might not like the cube/rectangular aesthetic appearance, but personally, it looks pretty chic. It’s not finger-print friendly though, so don’t be surprised if you see way too many prints all over the packaging but if you want to keep it shiny, simply wipe it off with a clean cloth.
Much Better Applicator
One of the things that make an effortless application is the applicator itself. And I’m happy to report that for a drugstore brand, Revlon’s rectangular base applicator with a v-shaped tip, is by far the best compare to the ones I’ve tried.
This applicator has enough flexibility and the shape works excellent when applying the product on your cupid bows and on the edges for precision. It has soft-textured (not stubby or bushy) ‘fuzz’, which is fab in picking up the right amount of product, too.
Color Match
Moisture Stain is the evolution of gloss, stain, balm, lipstick-like pigmentation in one swipe with a gel finish and surprisingly long-wearing for a gloss. And did I say hydrating on your lips? I’m actually VERY impressed.
Depending on your lips’ tone, there might be a slight variation on the shade, say the shades tend to appear slightly darker on your lips than what you see on the packaging.
The lightweight formula is one of the things you’ll love and the fact that it never feels tacky on application and even throughout the day. Revlon Moisture Stain nailed it with the non-sticky feature here, folks. And I love it!

Wear Time/Shade Coverage/Smell
With no food or fluid intake, the glossiness lasts maybe a good 2 hours while the color/stain stays a bit longer. And if you want long-lasting stain, opt for the darker shades, since they’ll give a much darker stain impression on your lips, which is the case with Parisian Passion. Although this shade was also a bit messy to apply and even out compare to Cannes Crush and LA Exclusive, the latter being the easiest.
Cannes Crush, which is a lovely orange-y/coral color offers more coverage compare to the rest, and is my current favorite.
Smell wise, I’m excited that they skipped the strong perfume on this one, unlike L’Oreal Extraordinaire or Maybelline Elixirs, which both have this overly sweet scent that stays on your lips that I’m not keen on. Revlon Moisture Stain however, doesn’t have any of the above, instead, it gives off this cooling sensation when first applied and no aftertaste whatsoever.
Honestly, this new Revlon product has awaken my love for lip glosses. Its formula is also something I’ve been looking for a while without having to resort to a designer brand and creating a hole in my pocket. As far as I know, this is a permanent line and supposed to launch officially across mass drugstores in the summer. I’m trying to find fault in this product, but right now I have found none and all I want to do is get more shades! LOL.
Q: Which shades will you be getting? Thoughts on Revlon’s Moisture Stain?
