Before I start, I want to thank Donah for allowing me to guest post on her blog! This is such an amazing opportunity and I am so thankful!
My Name is Kalei Lagunero. I am a Mommy to a little girl who is two years old and today I wanted to share a few fitness tips that I found along the way of my weight loss/fitness journey.
My daughter is now 2 years old and it’s taken me 2 years, and probably longer to get back to my pre-baby body.
After realizing that my metabolism wasn’t the same, the size 2 I used to wear was no longer an option when I went shopping. Hiding behind the stroller, placing baby in front of me when it was picture time, and not feeling good about myself ended up being my reality.
I am here to tell you, it is not going to be easy. You are going to want to give up, and it will seem like no matter what you do, how long you workout, the results you were expecting in two weeks, isn’t reflecting in the mirror. Don’t give up, have patience, and keep going no matter how you feel.
Here are some tips that helped me along my weight loss journey; assisted me and I continue to use today! This is my 10 lifestyle changing tips for weight loss, the Mommy edition.
- First, you have to decide what you want to do. Loosing weight, toning up, changing your diet. Choose 1 goal at a time. If you try to do it all at once, you will loose motivation.
- Commit to 10-15 minutes everyday.
Choose a schedule that works around your schedule. (baby’s nap time, work schedule etc)…Make sure you choose a time that you are able to focus on your workout. I choose to workout 20 minutes while my daughter is eating breakfast. That way she is occupied and I can get the full time I set aside for my workout. - Decide if a gym or home workout fits your lifestyle.
I don’t have the option to go to a gym, so I purchased items to create a home gym. This includes: Workout DVDs, Weights. (You don’t have to have big machines to get results. Body weight workouts will give you results too!) - There will be days when you don’t want to workout. I recommend putting on the workout pants anyway, and just do it. These are going to be the best workouts, because you have to fight for it.Consider getting a workout partner if you think you need help with some motivation. Post progress photos, keep a fitness journal and reward yourself when you loose X amount of pounds in 2 weeks!
- BE PATIENT. Think about how long it took your body to accumulate the weight. If you are a new Mommy, it took 9 months to create that precious gift inside of you, it’s going to take time to get back to normal. Some women return to their pre-pregnancy weight in it seems like 2-3 months, for some, it takes longer.
- Learn portion control/Eat clean. This doesn’t mean to stop eating that cheesecake after dinner. But, if you learn to control the portions, you’ll gain results quicker.
- Drink a lot of water! It will eliminate bloating, clear the skin and flush out toxins. Its essential in weight loss, and its good for your body.
- Meal prep.Set yourself up for success by prepping your meals. Eat a lot of veggies, fruit, and protein. I like to have a protein shake for lunch because it’s quick and keeps me full longer.
- Don’t worry about the number on the scale. If you feel great, and are confident in what your body looks like, maintain it. Just because the scale says 135 pounds, doesn’t mean you look like 135 pounds.Know what i’m saying?
- After reaching that milestone of weight loss, think of another goal you can work towards.
Maintain your hard work. You might even find another interest like I did with running!
Good Luck, and let’s get it in!
