Did you get caught up with the nude fever last year? Remember the whole frenzy on UD Naked 3? And then later on, it became an epidemic and every brand I must have known just puked up all 50 shades of nude to keep the ‘naked’ mood going? And then Maybelline brought The Buffs lipstick collection to join the party. Yay!
I’m one of those who got caught up with the nude fever because you see, I have a thing for natural makeup or ‘no makeup’ makeup look.
Maybelline’s Color Sensational The Buffs nude collection include 10 shades from the nudest nude to something espresso bold, which to me just passed the nude color wheel. But hey. They retail for $8.79 each (gasp!) and the lipstick bullets are incased in semi-transparent beige packaging. I used my Extrabucks and coupons left to purchase the lipsticks so in the end, I paid around $4-5 each.
It was very hard to decide which one to pick actually, because my mind wanted them all. In the end I went for Blushing Beige, Stormy Sahara and Espresso Exposed.
Maybelline The Buffs are all about true pigments and honest, raw, real, flesh tone colors, which are supposed to compliment the majority of skin tones. And I think the whole precious oils added to the formula is a bonus for this product, because it does leave my lips moisturized plus no irritation. I’m also glad to report that the sweet vanilla scent is very subtle and in fact yummy. Vanilla latte, anyone?
Here’s some swatches galore for you on my arm with and without the flash. Lipsticks were swiped multiple times.
I did my best to capture the swatches so they are a true match (or as close at least) for each lipstick shade and so, excuse my almost Photoshopped-like face in the next pictures below. I stayed in that position and somehow manage to have the same expression all the time. Ha ha.
Blushing Beige might look good being swatched on my arm, but don’t get fooled! I don’t even know how to pull this shade off on my lips without looking like I’m ill. It simply is not happening with me. I guess this just shows that I need to stir clear away from this type of nudes, huh?

On the other hand, Stormy Sahara is very earthy-toned, pretty beige lipstick and perhaps the most wearable between these three. And although I’ve said that these lipsticks have the hydrating or moisturizing effect, don’t expect too much of its longevity. This started to fade around 2 hours of application. This doesn’t leave any stain whatsoever.
Espresso Exposed is the boldest of all 10 shades and has the vampy effect. This is also the messiest when applied. OMG. And color distribution is an issue. I must have swiped at least 2 or 3 times to get them all even and at one point used my lip brush. o.O Staying power however is better than Blushing Beige and Stormy Sahara, around 3-4 hours and it does leave a stain on your lips too.
I also find that for better results, make sure to exfoliate your lips and perhaps apply a clear lip balm beforehand. Maybelline The Buffs, especially Stormy Sahara, has a creamy formula and does glide on my lips for the most part.
Nude lipsticks have definitely become a trend and I’m loving it. It really just comes down to finding your perfect match without having to splurge too much. I’m super excited what the rest of this year will bring to the beauty pot, are you?
Q: How do you feel about Maybelline’s The Buffs or Nude Lipstick Collection? Have you tried them or any of the shades you like to try out?
