Back in March, I shared my first impression on YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils on Instagram, thanks to Influenster Voxbox. And yes, I meant business with this designer mascara and went to test drive it for a month!
Disclosure: I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. No other compensation provided.
This iconic false lash effect volume mascara now contains an all new Lash Care formula. They also spilled the beans on its Triple-Intensity Formula: intense volume, intense color and now intense care. While this all sounds promising, I’ve never really owned a mascara at this price nor have I tried the original one, so I can’t tell the difference based on that.
I was a little skeptical about this mascara, but nevertheless, I thought this was the perfect time to find what the fuss is about.
There’s a reason why most of us go nuts for this luxury brand. Yves Saint Laurent is well-known for its beautiful array of makeup collection enough to make us all drool – literally. And YSL Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils (or Luxurious Mascara For A False Lash Effect) is no exception. (Let’s stick to its French name, it sounds so much better and shorter LOL )
With its yellow and Rose gold packaging and the brand’s initial emblazoned on it, it’s a stunner. Seriously, it can’t get any classier than Rose gold these days.
I received the shade in High Density in Black, although this mascara comes in five shades to compliment different eye colors. This has a nylon fiber brush that coats each lash in deep color and maximum volume from root to tip, while B5 Pro-Vitamin strengthens and protects lashes.
Now here’s the $32 question: Would I buy it?
I actually surprised myself on this one because I said…YES!
Yeah, I freaked (my husband) and myself out when I told him that. Because here’s what happened during the four-week trial of coating my lashes with their supposed to be remastered formula – I freaking fell in love with it!
Note: For those of you who are ingredients-conscious, this product contains preservatives, which was expected.
My eyes get easily irritated or become red when I apply a mascara (or eyeliner for that matter) because they’re that sensitive (or maybe the ones I’ve tried were just really crap?), so I tend to skip it and just use my eyelash curler.
Surprisingly, my eyes did not react to this at all and I am starting to love the added fragrance as well. How it lengthens and adds volume to my lashes are also noticeable and how it lasts for hours!
Another reason why I used to skip mascara in my makeup routine was it tends to feel heavy on my lashes and that really bothered me, especially towards the end of the day.

On the other hand, YSL Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils feels lightweight that I sometimes forget I’m wearing it! And perhaps, two things that impress me the most are a) it can curl my lashes (not just lengthens) without the help of my eyelash curler and b) it’s very easy to remove!
