Attending college is, for most students, a final opportunity to dress comfortably every day before getting an office job that requires you to put on a suit every morning. Unless you’re lucky enough to get a job with a super cool, relaxed company in the future, college is probably your last chance to spend every day in your comfiest sweater and sneakers. But, there’s a fine line between dressing comfortably and looking unkempt and sloppy. We’ve put together some of the best fashion items for college that will make sure you’re comfortable whilst looking great.
#1. College Sweatshirts:
Every student needs a sweatshirt with their college name or college sports team emblazoned on it, and when better to wear it than when you’re in class? College sweaters are practical, comfortable, and they’re usually available in a wide range of different colors, so you can build up a little collection if you want. Take your chance to wear it as many times as you want now before it starts to become loungewear for around the home.
#2. Hoodies:
Maybe you don’t want to walk around with your college name on show on your clothing – that’s fine! Hoodies are a comfortable, practical choice for class, particularly if you’re planning to go to the library for a long study session afterwards. You can find cheap hoodies from most high street fashion retailers or look at some of the luxury designers on SSENSE where you can treat yourself to a Balenciaga hoodie. You can even get a Balenciaga t-shirt to match if you’re going to be layering to keep warm. Balenciaga hoodies can be paired with pretty much anything and are certainly in fashion right now thanks to the athleisure trend.
#3. Jeggings
If you’re a girl at college, a nice pair of jeggings or stretchy jeans are the perfect item for class. Unlike regular jeans, they’ve got a little bit more give, so you’ll stay comfortable during a long study session. They leave plenty of room if you’re planning on snacking your way through classes and they’re comfortable enough to wear for an all-nighter in the library – no need to turn up in your pyjamas! A high-quality pair will look just like regular jeans but feel like you’re wearing a soft and stretchy pair of leggings.
#4. T-Shirts and Polo Shirts:
Filling your college bags with t-shirts and polo shirts is a great idea when you’re moving to college. These items are versatile, practical, and comfortable, meaning you’ll have a good selection of basics to choose from when it comes to picking new outfits. A range of t-shirts can be paired with the same pair of jeans or a skirt over and over to create different outfits, so you won’t need to worry about blowing your student budget on a new wardrobe. Plus, these items don’t require a lot of maintenance and can be dressed up or down, ensuring that you can wear them over and over.
#5. Sneakers:
Like hoodies, sneakers are a big part of the athleisure trend and something that students are forever grateful for. A sturdy pair of sneakers are a great choice for college as they’re comfortable to walk everywhere in and a lot more supportive for your feet than most other types of footwear. During the winter, a good pair of sneakers won’t just look trendy – they’ll also offer protection from the weather and keep your feet nice and warm. Plus, wearing your sneakers to class means that you can go straight to the gym or sports practice afterwards without the need to carry any extra bulk around with you throughout the day.
#6. Anything Oversized:
Oversized shirts, cardigans, and jumpers are the perfect choice for busy students due to the practicality and comfort that they provide. They can be worn almost anywhere around campus and are especially great during the winter months when you’ll want to be snug and warm as you walk from class to class. Invest in a few oversized knits for your winter college wardrobe – you’ll be thankful when the cold kicks in!
#7. Something Smart:
Lastly, it’s a good idea to have something smart to wear for presentations, meetings with big industry names, or interviews that you might attend whilst at college. A basic suit is perfect for guys, whilst girls might pick a smart dress, pantsuit, or a skirt and blouse. You don’t have to go overboard but having a go-to smart outfit in your wardrobe will mean that you don’t get caught short if you need to attend a last-minute meeting or are going somewhere where you’ll need to dress to impress.
