What a busy week, but thank goodness it’s Friday! It has been manic here in the bean house hence I’ve been MIA. And I have a feeling that our Summer here in the UK is about to go on holiday somewhere else! The temperatures have dropped and mornings… well, I just want to curl up in my bed and not get up! Too cold! But what about you, what have you been up to?
To continue what I started few weeks ago, here’s Pretty Random Things #2! I meant it when I said that I’d love to form a connection with my readers, not just through beauty reviews or DIY ramblings, but also sharing the little things about me. After all, we all want a bit of break from the normal beauty musings and step by step guide, right?
So, let me introduce you to my foodaholic self! And believe me, this did not happen overnight. In fact, I was such a picky eater, not to mention I would turn green if you put anything green on my plate (not the biggest fan of veggies, I’m afraid)!
So, what happened?
It all began when I started eating for two. That’s right. Nine months of craving season and almost getting away with different nibbles, it was bound to happen, right? While baking our little muffin in the oven (as my other half would say), I’ve come to like the food I used to dislike with a passion, and hated the ones I used to love.
Very strange, but big hormonal changes really threw up the balance here for me.
Wow, wasn’t I huge or what??
Weird Cravings
I find it hard to believe now that I used to sprinkle black pepper on every food and mix mustard on every dish back then if I wasn’t stopped most of the time! I seemed to have found a huge liking in these two condiments that I just couldn’t explain. But who needs an explanation? I was waddling and toddling with a big bump! I was allowed! ha ha. But if you thought this was weird, here’s another one…
Watching my other half eating dessert!
Somehow this brought joy to me. 😀 I did say it was weird, didn’t I? Whenever I had the chance to visit one of the biggest Asian supermarket in town that sold mouth-watering cakes, cream puff, green tea cake (oh yes, this was yummy!), cheesecake and the lot, I would always pick one to take home. After dinner, I would make him tea and prepare the dessert I bought. At first, he must have thought it was my loving gesture to treat his sweet tooth, but I’m pretty sure that after the first trimester and I was still doing it, he started to worry. Is she trying to fatten me up?? Perhaps. LOL. Or that could have been my little revenge (subconciously) since he always stopped me from eating my favourite sweets? Never upset a pregnant lady!
Lemon J
Simply Lemonade (all natural and not from concentrate) from Target. He did his homework and came home one day telling me that lemon juice would help with my morning sickness. Of which, by the way, never really happened in the morning, but at 4pm, on the dot, without fail! But hurrah, drinking lemonade somewhat helped big time. I must have drank gallons of it!
PBJ
Peanut butter & jelly sandwich! The perfect combo. I was never a fan of PBJ, but one day, it felt like it was the only food I could eat!! I could eat a whole loaf of bread in just one day. Just unbelievable.
Chicken Breast, Rice & Baked Sweet Potatoes
At least 30% of my diet within the first 3 months of my pregnancy consisted of these dish. I kid you not. They are healthy and my other half had this resolve that he would feed me them whether I like it or not! Oven-baked chicken breast (seasoned, normally different flavours, whatever he can come up with during that time), rice, and then baked sweet potatoes. With the whole morning sickness still up in the air, I was also struck with the laziness syndrome! That was the point in my life when I just didn’t want to be in the kitchen since I hated the smell of… practically everything! Never liked the smell of steak anymore. Pork just made me felt sick and don’t get me started with fish! So chicken it was to start my not-so-bright mornings.
But in every cloud there’s a silver lining… 😆
Because after the first trimester, my appetite came back! And I would never forget that the first big meal I had was Korean BBQ ribs, drool-worthy beef tofu soup and kimchi! Side dishes galore! I ate so much that night that my belly was huge!
Once the appetite’s back and was only getting bigger by the day, if I wasn’t home or going for a short stroll to exercise, I would be in some food hall doing what I do best, stuffed myself with food! :-D.
But that pregnancy definitely changed my eating habits for the better, since I started loving steamed veggies, even started eating broccoli and Brussels sprouts! Gotta keep the milk production going since little bean was one hungry baby, who refused to drink any other milk, but mine.
And to end this post on a yummy note, here’s what I treated myself while in London months ago.
Cheers to good food!
